A disclaimer: I was an early backer of Earl, but requested a refund last fall - not because of any misgivings about Earl or the process of Earl's development, but because (frankly) I needed the money then. I had absolutely no problems with the refund. John was most gracious.
I am now in a position where I could sign back on. However, I can't see doing so for a 4.7 inch screen. Yes, a smaller screen makes for a smaller device, but as so many have already said here, we knew what we were promised when we signed on, and we signed on most willingly. I would much prefer a 6 or even 7 inch screen. Anything larger than that might make the device a bit too unwieldy.
We can debate screen size forever, but my bet is that 6 inches will prove to be the sweet spot - not too small, not too big. Large enough to include enough useful information, but not so large that Earl will need its own backpack! So, my vote is definitely 6 inches, or even slightly larger. If, as John once said, competitors use smaller screens, then wouldn't a larger screen make Earl stand out and give it a competitive advantage?
I find the ability to use Earl for eBooks, maps, and weather info most appealing to me. I would use Earl on hikes for the most part.
Bottom line: promise me a 6 inch screen, and I'll be back!
