Not outlandish just not likely to get you anywhere. If you've been paying attention to this you'd know the guy is overwhelmed by just getting the thing built. He's proven to be less than stellar in terms of communication, planning, execution and followup. He hasn't made a single date he's committed to. And you think your 2 emails about a contest is something he's going to pay any attention to? There are an awful lot of people who have paid for the privilege of complaining about things. Contest applicants can move to the back of the line. Even if you'd do such heavy lifting as make some tweets and posts to Facebook.
Bottom line, this is not a professionally run project. It's a crowd sourced effort by someone with a good idea. The contest he announced may ultimately take place, just as he may in fact provide some units to "field testers" but those will most likely come after the backers have their units not before.
It doesn't take a position on a high horse to see that.
