IMHO, this won't be like CB
the same way texting is not like voice calls in an emergency.
Voice circuits quickly get jammed as each one requires a big pipe, CB frequencies can only handle 1 local voice at a time.
Data packets, however, can be spit out quickly, and irregular intervals, ensuring way more people get their message across.
I think it's a good idea, but the problem I see is that they have the TINY antenna for 50 Mhz.
When the low VHF stations (also at 50 Mhz) still require long "ears" on the new DTV antennas to get any sort of reliable reception, I question the SWR and the effectiveness of something measured in inches, then the 50 Mhz wavelength is the 6-meter band (that's how long a wavelength is) 6-meters. About 18 feet.
