You're not an investor, you're essentially just giving patronage to their company in return for some eventual end product.
A lot of people are complaining about the lack up updates, but I'm not too worried. I work in the industry and these guys are doing it right; they are actually living in China right now getting their manufacturer's shit together and managing the project closely. That's the only way this thing will get made in a reasonable timeline.
So far it looks like their plans for the India team fell through, most-likely due to poor results in the first few weeks of being there. You don't jump ship like that unless there was some fundamental problems in the design, leadership, etc. I feel confident that if they are willing to shift gears from India to China they seem to be on top of how to get the Earl made to spec.
The one thing they need to do is hire/beg for a community manager. Someone who gets short updates from them and then actually comments on the forums. Distills comments and the like.
