More than 2 1/2 years since I funded this project there is still no other product that offers what Jon envisioned the Earl to be. My opinion is that he had a dream for a product that he wanted, all of the individual components existed, his idea/plan/dream that over 2200 of us bought into was to combine those parts into a single compact unit. The facts show that we are a niche market, first less than 3000 units ordered, and second no close alternative has been introduced. So that is my reason for sticking with the project, I want an Earl or something similar.
That is why I continue to defend this project, I invested $249 in the idea of a rugged waterproof low power outdoor tablet. I cannot defend Jon's lack of communication, I can only guess from the available information that his technical nor business knowledge is/was not equal to the task he set out to achieve, and he has not made the best decisions along the way to find competent help. I personally believe that he is embarrassed and rightfully so for the way he has handled the project, he should not be embarrassed for having the vision to start the project.
I will be the first to admit I didn't understand the hurdles that stood in front of this project when I backed it. Because of this project and discussions on this forum I have gone on to become licensed as an amateur radio operator, through that process I learned that Jon's plans for the radio portion of Earl were never going to meet FCC regulations as he planned them, I was involved in many discussions here on the forums about the utilization of ports on Earl, I was adamant that they must be waterproof on their own not only through the use of rubber plugs. I now believe Jon was in over his head from the start, but I do not believe that he ever had the intention to knowingly defraud anyone, he wanted to make the tablet he wanted and to share it with all of us.
He has made numerous mistakes along the way, the only one I cannot forgive is his lack of communication, but even that falls short of making him a criminal.
@Nathanial_Piers If you are going to call someone out repeatedly for being dishonest, it might carry a little more weight if you were more credible in your own statements. Your self defined Viral Video has less than 30,000 views, hardly viral. Watching the video is very informative, at no time do you attempt to actually follow the directions, you do mis-state them in your attempt to blame others for you inability to properly use the product.
Jon's lack of communication and presence on this forum is inexcusable, but your sensationalizing is no better. This is/was always a Crowdfunded project Jon did unlike many crowdfunding projects offer refunds, and has been shown that he has followed through on refunds. I have posted on this thread multiple times that the evidence we have is that refunds have averaged 3 months from request to refund being received, that information is from those who were courteous enough to return and post for others to see that their requests had been fulfilled. You posted your request on December 15, 2015 and have posted to rant 5 additional times since then, including making threats that history has shown will not be seen by Jon.
You and everyone else who have requested a refund are entitled to get them, @ToddCady has stepped up to do all that he can to attempt to facilitate those refunds. I as one of your so called "True Believers" have attempted to pass on factual information as it was available and to keep people like you from posting sensationalized exaggerations.
