Chinese New Year and the China National Holiday are the two major holidays in China. No more till February. While the rest of the world winds down for Thanksgiving and Christmas and New Years... China will be humming away. The Chinese New Year is nearly a month long stand still, a combined two month dissruption.
But apart from Chinese New Year, even this National Holiday week was preceeded and will be followed up by working on the weekends. Even schools hold classes during the weekend before and after to reduce the impact of the "holiday". Nearly all the other single day "holidays" are made up for by working on the weekend before or after.
Its goofy, but not a productivity killer. Except for the Chinese New Year holiday time, there's no real "down time" in China. Like PMR pointed out, Jon's last public communication was just before the National Holiday week.
I don't really have a point to make except to help with some clarity about the Chinese dynamic in real time.
