The Earl had such promise; perhaps it still does if Jon is ever able to deliver it. However I strongly suspect that Earl will never see the light of day. It will be re-designed and vendor swapped until Jon runs out of money.
Three things from the 4/5/2015 update really tickled my funny bone so I thought I'd share:
"Perpetually traveling with the laptop always open has been very taxing on my life. " Really? So what's he doing with that open laptop? Playing minesweeper? He's sure not updating his backers which are the people paying for his constant travel and presumably hotel rooms and food.
"The routine of apologizing, updating and reneging promises bothers me." I didn't take the time to go back through the updates and forums and see how many times he's said this but it's gotta be at least a half a dozen now. Hey Jon, if you're tired of it...STOP DOING IT. Perhaps tonight while you have that laptop open playing Minesweeper and reading the hated updates from your vendors you could drop by the forums and say Hi. Interface with your backers and rebuild a little enthusiasm?
"We don’t always have the answers to give, but two months between updates is unacceptable." That was posted 4/5 and the next update was posted 7/26. So two months is unacceptable but 3 1/2 months is okay?
It's probably time to hang it up Jon. It's completely obvious to everyone you don't know what you're doing. Your screen debacle shows it. You should have come to YOUR FORUMS and discussed a change in screen size WITH YOUR BACKERS before making a decision like this.
You've pugged up the vendor choice, the design, the management, the investor relations, and communications. Is there literally anything you can point to with satisfaction?
I love the idea of the Earl, I really do, and I'm not hating on you but at this point perhaps it's time to step back and evaluate what you're doing. Perhaps it would be better to sell the idea to Garmin or Google and let them try and execute your vision.
I wish you the best of luck, you're going to need every bit of it.
