You chose a good word when you chose "Amateur" as anything like Earl has never been done, and Jon has no background in manufacturing any of the devices involved. That is exactly why he ran a crowd funding campaign, you being in the industry should understand better than most the hurdles that he is having to jump.
About the communication, it has been much better in last few months, not only more frequent but much more open and informative than when he was only trying to tell us "everything is all right" now he is explaining what is happening. The only problem with that is that it is spread between this forum and www.meetearl.com/updates/ where 10 days ago he posted a very in depth explanation of the upcoming certification process on the unit with radio module.
As I said in my previous post I believe he should be accountable, but what is accountable? In your post you seem to be asking for him to "write a report". Did you read the update from July 1st? He should answer email, but should he carry on personal correspondence with each and every backer? I cannot say whether or not he has answered any emails but I do believe that he should ignore the lions share if they are anything like the comments here on the forums or on the www.meetearl.com comments and ideas section, anonymous and vague.
My educated guess is that once Earl is finished and shipped the price will be quite a bit higher than the $359 that was quoted when this project started, I am guessing closer to $499 which would mean that we got 50% off rather than the 30% we came in at. Am I happy for the delays? No. Do I understand the difficulties? Yes. And those of you demanding personal interaction are just keeping him from working on Earl and getting it to us.
Jon doesn't owe any of us anything more than a completed product, leave him alone so that he can complete it.
